Winter Hair Protection

Does your winter hair tend to lose its silky structure or just isn’t willing to submit to your styling efforts? This is caused by the current season! During the winter months, your hair needs a lot of tender loving care in order to stay hydrated and healthy. Cold temperatures can cause flying, damaged, dull looking hair and a dry scalp.

The culprits are the low moisture droplets of the cool air outside, the heating inside, and hats that rub against the fibers of your hair, creating static electricity. In the end, your hair looks damaged and doesn’t feel smooth. Here are some easy hair care tricks for winter to avoid winter hair problems and help your hair to be ready when spring finally arrives!

Hair Mask Treatment

During the winter your scalp will be drier than usual, caused by the lack of moisture in the air. This leads to dandruff, scalp irritation and hair loss. But don’t worry – this problem can be easily solved with a Kerastase Masque application.

Our favorite hair mask is undeniably Kerastase. The Kerastase Masque provides your hair with much needed nutrients in order to re-moisturize and revitalize. In the cold, dry air of the winter months, there’s nothing better! We offer expert application of the Kerastase Hair Masque as one of our services. Practical Tips

Using hats when it’s cold outside will keep your hair warm and protect it from snow, wind and rain. Basically this is good, because those elements will dry your hair out and cause hair breakage.

However, wearing hats welcomes its own set of problems, like static and frizzy hair. To avoid those effects, you should use products which help to prevent static hair. We recommend trying our very own Hydrating Tonic and using a vented hairbrush with plastic and boar bristles. This will also help to avoid static hair.

Besides those winter hair care tips against hat hair, using the right temperature while washing your hair is important. Make sure that you only use lukewarm water instead of hot water. Water which is too hot will strip away the protecting and nourishing natural oils of your hair.

Making sure you have a humidifier in your room can also help hydrate hair. Indoor heating dries the air in your home a lot! This pulls the moisture out of your hair and makes it easier to break, due to its dryness. A humidifier helps to re-hydrate the air, and thus also your hair.

Avoiding Split Ends

In order to maintain healthy hair and keep it looking fresh, don’t forget to trim your hair regularly. As your hair is very dry during winter it breaks easily and split ends will show up. Cutting your hair every 8 weeks a little will remove split ends and keep your hair healthy. Another winter hair care rule you should know is to never leave the house with wet hair. If your hair is wet, it will get damaged easier than dry hair when exposed to the cold. Going outside with wet hair during the winter will cause freeze and hair breakage. Always make sure that your hair is completely dry before you leave the house during the cold winter months.

When you dry your hair, letting your hair naturally air dry is the best option. During winter your hair will be dryer than usual already, and blow drying will only add to this. It draws out the moisture of your hair and increases the chance of hair breakage. If you really have to blow dry your hair, make sure that you dry it on a cool setting and hold the dryer at least 15 cm away from your hair. This prevents problems like dandruff, breakage and split ends.

Recommended Hair Care Routine for the Winter Season

In order to fight winter hair, replenish the moisture of your hair and combat the effect of styling tools, indoor heating and cold winter winds, you should use a conditioner at least once per week. Shampoo your hair first, rinse it out properly, then apply a conditioner. We, of course, recommend our own hydrating Salon Ziba Volume Conditioner!  Concentrate on the ends of your hair, as they are the oldest and most damaged hairs. After leaving the conditioner in your hair for a few minutes rinse it out with lukewarm water. After this treatment you will have smooth hair that looks glossy and healthy.
